I know the RR crowd generates more revenue for AHRMA and has some influence because of it--that's fine--but why in the world would they have ANY say about what we do in MX? I have never attended a board meeting--my bad--but is that really how it works? Can our off-road representatives meddle with road race classes that they know nothing about? |
This is an old bitter subject, first if you review the yearly budget RR and Off road come out about even, OR with membership and RR from profite (hopefully) on their own races, it breaks even over the years, both need each other. Correct me if I'm wrong, the board now has more people from the RR side than OR side, the board makes decisions for all members. |

| I let my ahrma membership lapse this year because of this. I have 3 Sidepipes that are now parked. I would gladly re up if I had a class to ride them in. |

Evening,
Thank you everyone for all the great input you've given on
this chat board and the emails sent.
Last weekend I attended a NW Regional event that
drew about 180 to 200 enteries. It was held on the Crooked River Ranch, in Oregon. The track is located between a golf course and a baseball field,
the trials that was held on Sat. had about 55 to 60 entries so I guess
you could say VMX and trials is alive and well in the NW. In the mix
were about 15 ESS entries that are included as a support class.
Next weekend there is another NW regional in Dairy, Or. that will
probably draw about the same amount of entries. The acceptance
of ESS as a National Class is going to depend on the numbers of entries
at the Regional level this year. So come on out and support ESS.
This next issue of V.V.'s will have the finalized proposal for ESS that
will be submitted to the Rules Committe in June. Thanks again everyone for your help. If you favor this
new class please contact your Trustees, talk to your friends and
drag those ESS bikes out and lets go racing.

| Turns out all Trustees vote on all important rules issues, but usually rely on input from fellow trustees on matters that may be out of their personal scope. Two Trustees are telling me the same thing: We HAVE to show support for this by TELLING all Trustees we want it--otherwise it will go nowhere. And getting some of these bikes out and racing will help a lot! |

In the next couple weeks the ESS rule proposal will be discussed
by the AHRMA trustees to be included as a National class next year.
Thanks everyone for your input and support there were alot of great
comments and ideas you've sent me and in the latest issue of V.V.'s
is the proposal we came up with.(add the 250 5- speed Stilleto)
So now would be a good time to contact your Trustees and tell them
you would like to see this class added next year. And Cliff you DO
owe me another box of Blond Bombshell.
Thanks again,
Don Matthews |

Don,
Thanks for putting in all the work to get the class voted on! I just picked up my ESS bike today and I'll be out there supporting the cause at a few races this year.

| If the current suggested class rules hold, would a PVL ignition be legal in the ESS? |

Don,
Would it be considered "not allowed" to run a Mk4 Pursang engine model 68 in an earlier Sherpa S scrambler frame for the 250 class? Only clear advantage to this being that you would'nt have to spend the rest of the day picking up boat tail pieces and other glass parts after being center punched in a squared off hairpin turn by a WFO Husky rider,..lol!
cheers |

Working on the Bultaco question. But I have a DT-1 question, did they have steel
sliders up 'till they had reed-valves? That would mean steel sliders only on RT and Dt-1's. Need help on this one.

No. 70-71 RT-1 aluminum and 71 DT-1MX aluminum
Would it be OK to run a YZ250a bottom end with a 71 DT-1mx cylinder and head?

Mr. Holat88,
The motor is good and as far as I can tell and the frame is also within
the rules proposal.
Remember the Rules comittee has the final say.

A YZ bottom end would be allowed if 1st, 3rd and 5th gear were removed
from the mainshaft and 2nd and 4th removed from the layshaft. Thanks for the info on the forks.
