Hi Guys
I"m setting the timing on a 1974 cr 125 the manual said to set at 18 BTDC at 6000 rpm , I would like to set before the motor is running . I would appreiate any information .

| Assuming you don't have a dial gauge, quick and dirty initial setting for almost any bike: Put the piston at TDC (top dead center) Put a matchstick or whatever as straight as possible down the spark plug hole or cylinder if the head is still off. Mark the stick and put a second mark 2mm above the first mark. Back the engine 2mm using the marks on the stick and set the timing there until you get it going. This is just to get it to run. Bikes with no timing advance can be run like this with pretty good results. Bikes with timing advance should be set by the book before making power. Always listen for detonation, detonation kills engines quickly. |
