 1973 Yamaha ATMX 125
Back in December, during the annual "Christmas Wish List" to Santa, I asked Santa for a 1973 ATMX. A few days later, Santa in the form of John Bergener of Roswell, NM, offered to sell me his.
So, my son Spencer and I took a 5 hour drive out to Arizona to pick it up, met up with John and brought it home. Thank you John for giving me such a good deal on this little gem.
This bike is somewhat outside of what I'm collecting, but I wanted it for two reasons. One, it was Yamaha's first serious attempt of putting out a 125 race bike. Yes, it's an enduro with a GYT kit but a lot of guys cut their teeth riding this bike and two, I saw this model raced back in 1973 by a guy named Hank Spaulding at Fort Riley, KS. Until the TMs and CRs came to the track, he won a lot of races on this bike.
It needs a few things and probably should be restored, but for now I'm adding few pieces as I find them and just enjoying it. Man, these bikes were tiny!

In 1972, Dirt Bike made a fantastic publication, the Photo Annual.
It was loaded with action photos and 16 pages were in full color, which
was considered outrageous at the time. John DeSoto was on the cover
and all of the greats were inside, like DeCoster, Ake, Lackey and
most of the top racers of that phenomenal period of time.
Copies of that Photo Annual are rare nowadays and go for over
$100 if you can find one. I scanned the copy in my library and am making
it available in pdf format. For $10 (postage included in the US) you

| Just finished a batch of new all aluminum silencers for Suzuki 1977 RM125B and 1978 RM125C/RM100C with OEM / stock or Fox pipes.
Exact match for the OEM silencer (part number 14330-41601).
These silencers are fully rebuildable with no ratty pop rivets or sheet metal screws. Total weight: 8.6 ounces (245 grams). Kit includes clamp, emery cloth for cleaning up your stinger and user guide.
This version has two cosmetic enhancements over the original Bassett Racing Product version I used as a pattern: (1) two welds around the body (2) corners are rounded.

| Yamaha Universal Aftermarket Air Filter Kit for the 1969-1973 AT-1/2/3 Enduro/MX and the CT-1/2/3 Enduro
Description:
Made and assembled in the USA air filter kit. Aluminum base, aluminum cover and aluminum mounting bracket with SS/aluminum hardware. Designed to be used on either the LH or RH side of the bike. All mounting hardware, air filter, spacers and 90 degree elbow are included in the kit. You only need to provide the OEM rubber air intake boot and your OEM hose clamp for the carb.
The air cleaner kit is available in 2 sizes:
Kit A
This kit will bolt on the LH side of the bike behind the oil tank or can be used on the RH side of the bike when using a downpipe. Tests have shown that this air filter kit flows enough CFM's (air) to achieve maximum RPM on a stock CT-1 175cc with a 4th over bore and an aftermarket expansion chamber.
Air filter specifications 1.56" height x 3.002" ID x 4.393" OD
Aluminum cover specifications 1.5" height x 5" across
Kit B
This kit can also be fitted to either side of the bike. When mounting it to the LH side of the bike the oil tank cannot be used. When mounting it to the RH side of the bike the kit will not work with the pipe in it's stock location. You will have to run a downpipe, custom make a pipe or run a pipe on the LH side of the bike. This air filter kit will flow enough air for a modified motor.

This is an unusual DVD, in that it has some great action footage of all the top motocrossers of 1973, but not one word of dialogue. There’s plenty of good music for a background and plenty of shots of the racers in the pits, but nary a caption to tell you who is who. Of course, when you see Weinert on the back of a jersey, there’s no real mystery.

| THE ORIGINAL DIRT BIKE MAGAZINE MOCKUP
In 1970, Rick Sieman made a 29 page mockup of what Dirt Bike magazine should look like. At that time, there were no pure dirt bike periodicals of any sort being published. Rick was the ad salesman for Big Bike and Choppers magazine at the time.
He went to the publisher, Bill Golden, with the mockup, and preached long and hard for Dirt Bike magazine to come into existence. After a month of grinding on the publisher, Golden agreed to let Rick try one issue, and if it didn’t fly, well that would be the end of that noble experiment.
That first issue sold a staggering 74% at that time when the average motorcycle magazine sold 42%. Soon after, Dirt Bike became a monthly publication. Within four years, the circulation was up to an astonishing 275,000 copies per month.
Rick has kept this crude mockup in his files since 1970, and it is now for sale. It’s only 29 seats of paper, hand-lettered, but this mockup was the document that changed dirt bike history forever. New chain and sprockets, seat cover, tires,
primary chain,all with two races on them, new steel clutch plates with no races. Also has hard rubber carb boot with Mikuni 36mm carb. Tank has few paint chips and scratches but no dents, has wheelsmith pegs on it now. $2500 o.b.o ,Also have 78 Maico 400cc Mx 2150 o.b.o, will sell together at a great savings. | 1978 Maico 400cc Mag, 36mm mikuni carb with hard rubber air box boot,new Pro taper bar's & pad,new Fork seals and red fork boots, tires are 90%,a couple small dents on upper edges of tank,seat looks good in pic's but has a slight repair on kicker side,have a new cover that goes with bike.I also purchased a new set of Progressive 15"shock's that goes with this 400cc Maico. | for sale: mx400 yamaha the photo with the blue grips is how i got it it , the other photo with the engine out is the same bike it ran good but had a ticking noise i pulled the engine to work on it and never got to it.i also have another one just like it not in quite as good of shape but not bad also with engine out i have enough stuff to make 2 bikes plus a extra engine and some top ends and a couple new pistons all for $700 central IL .about the only thing missing is a air box for the 2nd bike.if interested email me or call for more info or photos| | John Laurent
