 1973 Yamaha ATMX 125
Back in December, during the annual "Christmas Wish List" to Santa, I asked Santa for a 1973 ATMX. A few days later, Santa in the form of John Bergener of Roswell, NM, offered to sell me his.
So, my son Spencer and I took a 5 hour drive out to Arizona to pick it up, met up with John and brought it home. Thank you John for giving me such a good deal on this little gem.
This bike is somewhat outside of what I'm collecting, but I wanted it for two reasons. One, it was Yamaha's first serious attempt of putting out a 125 race bike. Yes, it's an enduro with a GYT kit but a lot of guys cut their teeth riding this bike and two, I saw this model raced back in 1973 by a guy named Hank Spaulding at Fort Riley, KS. Until the TMs and CRs came to the track, he won a lot of races on this bike.
It needs a few things and probably should be restored, but for now I'm adding few pieces as I find them and just enjoying it. Man, these bikes were tiny!

| DIRT BIKE MAGAZINE CD SET
Get the first four years of DIRT BIKE Magazine on discs. Those early copies are getting hard to find and the ones in the first year (1971) are going for big bucks. Here’s what you get:
* Every issue from June of 1971 through all of 1974. That June ’71 issue was the very first issue. I worked on all of these magazines until that last issue in 1974. You’ll see a big difference in content in that last issue and the ones that preceded it.
* Every issue has every page included. All the color pages are reproduced in color. You can print out every page if you want to, since the issues were produced in Picasa 3 format.
* Or you can put it in your computer (or CD/DVD player) and simply enjoy a slideshow of each and every year. There are seven discs included in the package. Each disc contains one-half of a year (six issues) in order. This comes to about 4400 pages total.
Here’s how to work the discs: Pop a disc in your computer and open it. An icon saying PICTURES will appear. Left click it.
Another icon will appear naming the disc (ex: DIRT BIKE 2nd HALF 1974). Left click it. This will bring up a bunch of dates/icons. Left click on the first one.
This will open up Picasa 3 and the first page of the magazine. Go to the bottom of the photo with your cursor and this will reveal the tool bar for Picasa 3. It’s self explanatory. You can make the page bigger or smaller, rotate the page, edit the page in Picasa, advance to the next page, make a slideshow out of the magazine by clicking the arrow in the middle, or simply print the page out by going to the down arrow (far right), click it and follow the directions.
The seven disc set costs $70 plus $5 for priority mail. So get your very own piece of history.| | Rick Sieman

| (2) 1979 yamaha yz 250f's for sale .. i have 2 1979 yamaha yz 250f motocrossers for sale... both are all original with pretty low hours ... the first one i have cleaned up and added new tank graphics and it looks great.. i got it from the original owner and it had a new 1st over piston and rings done years ago with very little time on the bike since... it runs great still has the original grips and kickstand plastics seat pipe silencer ... bike number 2 i just found and needs a clean up ... i checked the bottom end and it is tight as new great compression starts first kick.. clutch is sticky but rideable ... bike was wheelied over and the rear frame seat/fender mount is bent making the rear fender and seat stick up a bit... can be easliy fixed it's just sheetmetal... all original plastic seat grips kickstand dent free pipe silencer fork boots dry and cracked needs front wheelbearings... brakes good.. i will sell the one i just found for $999 and the real nice one for $1399 call for details thanks| | Eric Stanley

| There is a Vintage Motocross God! The stolen RM250 has been recovered.
I put an ad on craigslist Morgantown promising a reward, and someone called and told me his neighbor had the bike. The sheriff's department took it to their impound last night, and Fred Guidy is going to babysit it until I can get there.
In the grand scheme of life events, worse things can happen than losing a bike, but it's still maddening. Thanks for all the support and concern. You're good people.

PO stated the motor had just been gone thru with new rod kit, crank bearings, seals, 2nd overbore. Motor is very tight/quiet and runs strong, shifts good. Bike still has the warning decals on the rear fender and tank. Lately I've run into a bad streak. A few Nigeria scams (nope didn't fall for them). Last week I thought I found a part but once it came in it was for the wrong year. Is Clarke the only tank manufacturer for a plastic tank and is their color red closest to which?
Paint for frame and engine: Is it better to use an epoxy or urethane paint for the engine and or frame? I thought I would have the paint matched to the new plastic once I figure out which plastic to use.

| I came accross an old yamaha , and am trying to figure out what it is, it has no #s on the motor, looks to be a 250cc, has twin shocks, the previous owner said it had a fiberglass tank on it that fit like a factory tank, but it is gone , it also has a fiberglass air box that also doubles ans the forward part of the rear fender

| | | Guys, I just saw where Bob Adams had a bike stolen from the pits. This type of crime is happening more and more. And you know its not a member of our clubs. They know they cant race it or sell it and also they know of "pit justice".
Personally, I lock my bikes with a chain anytime I am not in my pit. If Im sleeping over at a national or something, I chain the bikes to my trailer and have a nice old cowbell on the chain. Over kill? Maybe. But no one is going to push my bikes away while I sleep.
We have crooks within our gates. Time to show them there is nothing to steal. Lock your bikes.

| I took this pipe off a pretty wrecked 79 KX 125. Instead of running through he frame it was modified to run along the throttle side. A nut was welded to the end to mount it to the seat bolt. They also welded a 1 inch section into one of the cones.

My problem is all of my bikes are restored vintage machines that have either long since had paper work lost, or are built from a mixed bag of parts. -Non-standard Mikuni idle adjustment parts on carburetor top (original had no idle adjustment at all).
-Handlebars are Renthal brand.
-One of the radiator shrouds has an epoxy repair on the inside at the screw hole.
-The foam seal-savers pictured have been replaced with the typical black rubber 43mm fork wipers.

| 1983 RM250 stolen from the pits at the Morgantown, West Virginia Mountainfest national. Riding number 136 if the thief is a total fool. Left side panel is scraped from a (rare) Poindexter tipover. Yellow and black "Suzuki" crossbar pad. By all indications the bike was pushed for a distance, then ridden away, perhaps pointing to an amateur.
The photo has been cropped to protect the identity of the individual who did not chain his bike or record the its ID number.
These things tend to go underground for a period of time and then crop back up occasionally spray painted a different color. So everyone should be looking for a bike with a crappy paint job. Also keep an eye on auction sites for these types of parts coming out of Kentucky. Sorry to hear this happened to you. Sounds like a crime of opportunity, probably kids....Mark| | Bob Adams
